RU58841 Research Guide
RU58841, also known as PSK-3841, is a nonsteroidal antiandrogen. This guide summarises what the compound is, how it acts on the androgen receptor, and how to store and handle the solution.
At a glance
- Names: RU58841, PSK-3841
- CAS number: 154992-24-2
- Molecular formula: C17H18F3N3O3
- Class: nonsteroidal antiandrogen (androgen receptor antagonist)
- Regulatory status: not approved as a medicine in the UK, EU or US
Origin
RU58841 was developed by the French company Roussel Uclaf in the 1990s as a topically applied antiandrogen. It was later studied under the code PSK-3841 but was never brought to market as an approved medicine.
Mechanism
RU58841 competes with androgens such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) for binding at the androgen receptor. By occupying the receptor without activating it, it blocks androgen signalling locally. Unlike 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, it does not reduce the amount of DHT produced.
Research use
Published work on RU58841 has focused on preclinical models of androgen-dependent processes in skin and its appendages. It remains a compound of interest for researchers studying local androgen receptor antagonism.
Storage and handling
- Store below 25°C, away from direct light.
- Keep the cap tightly closed between uses.
- Wear gloves and eye protection, and work in a well-ventilated area.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Research use only
Mane Regain supplies RU58841 strictly for laboratory research. It is not intended for human or veterinary use, consumption or application.
